Writing By Writers
Pam Houston is a co-founder of the non-profit Writing by Writers. WxW hosts multi-day writing workshops for people interested in writing fiction, nonfiction, memoir and poetry. The workshops are taught by nationally known, published authors, who are adept at teaching the craft of writing to all levels of student. In addition, participants learn how to read others’ work critically and apply those lessons to their own writing.

February 7-12, 2027, Writing Into The Solace Of Winter’s Deep Heart, bayfield, WI
In this class writers will let the beauty and wisdom of the natural world support us in writing a series of generative exercises and conversations about craft. We will enjoy being outside, walking in the snow, writing on the surface to the lake, visiting the ice caves, maybe even a cross country ski, and then we will be in class, using the inspiration we found outside to open our hearts and our lyric impulses!
This retreat is open to all levels of writers.

I am so excited to announce my first manuscript-based prose workshop at Clos Mirabel. After two years of holding generative workshops in this beautiful environment, we now have the opportunity to gather in a smaller group (maximum 7-8) to make a greater commitment to each others’ work, and in doing so take that work to the next level.
Writers will be asked to turn in up to 5000 words of prose (personal essay/short story/novel or memoir chapter/micro memoir, etc) with their application for review.
